Acatenango volcano day hike
Hike up the Acatenango volcano. Private tour with guide and transport.
About the hike
The Acatenango volcano is a 4000 meter high volcano with spectacular views. We will pick you up from your hotel at 5 am. It will be a one hour drive to the village of La Soledad, where our guide will be waiting for you. Our experienced local guide is from La Soledad and has done countless trips guiding people up the volcano. With him you will be in safe hands to make this though but ultimately rewarding hike.
The first part you will walk through fields of corn, other crops and cloud forest. Half way to the top you will see less vegetation until it will be mostly volcanic ash and rubble. It takes approximately 6 hours to hike up the volcano. The Acatenango volcano connects to the Fuego volcano, one of three active volcanoes in Guatemala. At the top of Acatenango there is a good chance you will see smoke, ash and maybe lava coming out of Fuego, an amazing thing to see up close. You will have a picnic style lunch and make the descent back to La Soledad. Here the bus will be waiting to take you back to Antigua. In total including transfers the trip takes about 12 hours.
