Lake Atitlan is a crater lake and boarded by 3 volcanoes. Typical Guatemalan villages line the shores of the lake. You will visit two villages by boat, as most towns around the lake are only reachable by water.

The Chichicastenango market is a real bustling market in the Guatemalan Highlands. You will find an immense variety of goods, like clothes, shoes, any type of handicraft and local produce.

Day 1

Early pick-up from your hotel in Antigua or Guatemala City. You take a private transfer to Panajachel passing beautiful countryside. In Panajachel, you will be met by our local guide. Together you will head out per boat to visit two villages: San Juan and Santiago Atitlan. San Juan is full of beautiful murals, cooperatives of artisans coffee and chocolate producers, medicinal plants and beautiful textiles. Santiago is one of the most visited villages, but the local Maya Tzutujil cling to their traditional lifestyle. The women weave and wear huipiles (traditional clothes) with brightly colored birds and flowers. After visiting Santiago you will return to Panajachel, where you will have the rest of the afternoon and evening free.

Day 2

After breakfast, you will depart to the market of Chichicastenango. You will enjoy a 3 to 4 hour guided visit. Chichi has always been an important market town, villagers from all over the region come to sell their goods. The local church and graveyard are also worth a visit. Afterward, return to Antigua.

Note: Because of the Chichicastenango market days are only Thursday and Sunday this tour would have to start on any Wednesday or Saturday. It is also possible to visit the market on the first day and visit Lake Atitlan on the second day. In that case, you can depart on any Thursday or Sunday.
