Pacaya volcano tour
Pacaya is an active volcano but in a mostly dormant state. Sometimes you can see lava flows or you can see the evidence of recent lava flows. Even when there is no lava there are vents with steam coming out, hot enough to roast marshmallows. The hike itself is worth the trip, with beautiful views of the surrounding landscape and the volcanoes Fuego, Agua and Acatenango.
We will pick you up from your hotel in Antigua. Because this is a group tour it takes about 30 minutes to pick-up all the participants. The drive to the volcano takes about one hour. Here the local guide will be waiting for you and you start the hike. It’s a two hour walk up the volcano, stopping a various view points. You will go as far up as safety allows, as close as possible to the crater. Take a rest at the top, roast some marshmallows, and then you will make your way back to the starting point. Here the driver will be waiting for you and drive you back to your hotel in Antigua.
Departures for this tour are 6 am or 2 pm. In rainy season we recommend to go in the morning because the views will be better. Bring good hiking shoes, a warm jacket, water and a flashlight if you take the 2 pm tour (the walk down can be in the dark).
